The third rule to Living a Purple Life:

"Now hiring Dream Killers"

"Marv brand new now. Why is Quill wearing a mohawk, and what is up with Cash dressing so weird? OP act like he know it all. This purple thing they doing is just so lame." Just a few of things I hear when it comes to my team and I. Few years back I would had been a on mission to confront each person with something negative to say. Of course, that was long before I begin to live purple.

There's something I'm sure we all have in common, a dream killer. For those who are unaware of what a dream killer is allow me to explain. Its a person who supposedly hates any and everything about you. They spend countless hours telling others how much they disapprove of you and your actions. Notice in the description of a dream killer the word "supposedly" has been used. I hate cheese. I don't eat it on my burgers, salad, sandwiches, or anything. Its a food that I care nothing for. When ordering take out I skip over anything on the menu that has cheese. Again, I hate cheese. So how can a person hate you but spend so much time being concern about your involvement in whatever it is you do. Things you hate you have no part of. Like cheese.

Living purple isn't just about how you think, its also about how you translate those thoughts into actions. And the purpose of each action should be a benefit to you and those around you. We've been taught to turn the other cheek when confronted by hatred. Why? There is a positive in everything, even negativity. The importance is using that negativity to your advantage.

On the typical resume the applicant puts "references available upon request". Why? Isn't it the job of a reference to tell this person how great you are at doing your job? No one cares about how good you think you are. Its the opinion of others that matter. Whether their opinions are good or bad. For example, when is the last time you've seen a Starbucks television commercial? You haven't, you know why? Because the multi-million dollar success of Starbucks has been created strictly by its consumers telling others how overrated Starbucks coffee is. Or how Starbucks is the greatest coffee ever invented. Either way it leads the person they were discussing the matter with to see for themselves. In the purple world of business this is called the use of a sneezer. The importance of people talking about you.

If you meet a stranger on the street and their a good person, then that's all they are. They're nothing more than a good person. You never had an impression of them to begin with. Now upon meeting this stranger lets say I told you how evil they were. That I told you not to trust them because I didn't like them or how they act towards others. When they turn out to be the complete opposite, they shine so much more because of the preconception that I had given to you. In the end you can't stop talking about how confusing it is to you that people hate this stranger so much, being that they're the most respectful person you ever met. The things I said only led you to appreciate their kindness even more.

Whether you own a fortune 500 company, sell shoes out the trunk of your car, or work a traditional 9 to 5, dream killers are key to the success of what you do. They send you prospects. Most importantly, they give to you everyday the opportunity to show how great you are truly are. Its not the hatred that's a concern its your actions. You can either prove them right or prove them wrong. They did their job. They sent you a prospect. They made sure you were noticed. "Is what they say about you true or are you capable or working the position you applied for?" "I heard about this place but let me see for myself what the food is like." "They said she two faced but not to me, I think they just jealous of her." You get my point? If it wasn't for dream killers...doing the job of a sneezers (spreading the word)...your prospect would never notice you in the first place.

All sneezers aren't dream killers. A sneezer simply tells the next person they come in contact with about you, your services, or product. Dream killers follow this same process in what they think to be, a negative way. Fortunately they become to consume with you to realize how much of an asset they truly are. So the next dream killer you come in contact with...thank them. Tell them how much you appreciate the effort and hard work they have put in. Then sit back and watch how many prospects doing that brings you...lol. Live Purple.

The second rule to living a purple life:

"Go Get It"

So today I texted a female friend of mine. The text stated the following, "I bet that either you are A) blowing kush B) at the crib just chilling or C) bored with nothing to do." She responded via text by saying "ALL THE ABOVE!! How did you know?" The answer is simple. She will spend tomorrow doing the same thing she did today which is the exact same thing she did yesterday. NOTHING!! Don't get me wrong people, its nothing wrong with relaxing. I'm sure its one or two single mothers (or fathers) reading this that know relaxation is key when it comes to keeping your sanity. However, if you spend everyday relaxing it might be a problem. And if she is reading this, sorry to put you on blast ma but I'm proving a point here.

Its 24 hours in a day. Most of us give 8 of those hours to our employer. In exchange they provide us with just enough of a pay check to keep us clocking back in the next day. In other words,...just enough to pay bills and live miserable. In order to do our absolute best at this job we spend a good 8 hours sleeping. We spend about another 4 hours paying bills, taking care of the kids, doing our day to day routine, and etc. This leaves you 4 hours of what I like to call "me time". 4 hours to do whatever you like. You can relax sit back and do nothing if you want. But what if you did do something with those 4 hours? Better yet what if you split them in half and did something productive with only 2 of those me time hours? Something you are passionate about? Something that would improve your life? Stick with me purple people we're about to do a little math. Its 365 days in a year. Which means by giving yourself 2 hours a day to do something productive, that's 730 hours per year you've dedicated to becoming a better YOU!!

Still not convincing enough? Okay, well look at this way. You spend 8 hours a day 5 days a week making the CEO of the company you work for filthy rich. Most likely this guy has no idea that you even exist. With that said, you give him about 1,920 hours per year faithfully. Just look at your next pay stub, its all there. Almost two thousand productive hours of your time making somebody else rich. Imagine how successful the CEO of your employer has become off your eight hours a day. I wonder what 2 hours a day could do for YOU? Is that convincing enough?

Those who have no interest in bettering themselves stop reading this blog a long time ago. We lost them right after the text message story, trust me. But you, you're still reading. You're still here. Which means you're interested. It means you do want better for yourself. It means you're willing to take that chance. It means your becoming purple. And don't be confused. I'm not telling you quit your job. Its a recession for Pete sakes, that would be crazy. What's not crazy is investing a little of your time towards the improvement your life.

We can all say that we believe in ourselves. We can parade around all day screaming to the top of our lungs that if you believe it you can achieve it. Then its my favorite cliche of all time, the sky's the limit. The truth is, if you don't put in the work it takes to better yourself, it will....hold on let me make this as clear as possible....IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!! Ten years from now you will be in the same position saying "I can do anything I put my mind to." Which is my second favorite cliche.

Am I rich? Far from it. Do I have all the answers? Not even most of them. But I do know this. No one person has accomplished any goal in life by waiting for it to happen on its own. Something had to be done in order for that goal to be reached. Not only did they start believing, they started doing.

This isn't for everybody. Some people are satisfied with where their lives are and that's not a problem. They feel that being average or mediocre is what's best for them. They told themselves a long time ago that the buck stops here. They're extremely happy with where they are in life. They're the ones that will one day say to you "yeah I worked there for thirty something years and for my retirement look at this nice mug they gave me, ain't that nice of them." To quote Quill's last purple blog, "they rather play it safe." I'm not saying that they're wrong. I'm just saying that thirty years from now I would like to have more than a mug to show for my life's work.

So who is this blog for? Its for those who dare to take the risk of having something in life. Its for those who will sacrifice a small portion of their time to make a huge difference for themselves. Its for those who want more. Its for those who understand being purple isn't just believing you can achieve something, but being willing to go out and actually get it as well. That's who this blog is for.

Look, I'm not a motivational speaker nor am I a life coach. Myself or no one else can tell you what to do or how to do it. All I can say is do it. Stop talking, stop dreaming, stop wishing and go do it already. Will it happen tomorrow? Probably not. It may take years before whatever your trying to accomplish is finally accomplished. I can't tell you how long it will take to get it. But I can tell you that you'll never have it if you don't begin to go after it. The journey of a thousand miles starts with one single step.

So let today be different from yesterday. Do something today that changes tomorrow. Invest some of your time in you. You deserve it just as much as anyone else. If you want something then go get it. Its that simple. Act, become, and live....PURPLE.

Why so scary?

When was the last time you did something totally out of your routine? As big as applying for another position at work or as small as wearing something that's not exactly your favorite color. Now if you didn't apply for that job because you were just not interested, that's cool or if you just can not stand that color,I understand but if a co-worker told you there was no need to apply because so and so tried and he or she didn't get it, and they are WAY more qualified then you or if your friends said that color makes you look fat or that pink is for girls, my friend you are not living a purple life.

I'll give you a tip maybe sooner than I should, but to be purple is to be fearless. We give way to much power to others over our own day to day lives. Some where along the lines we have gotten afraid to break the status quo. When did being unique or seeing life a little different become a bad thing? So what if they think that color makes you look a bit chubby, some people love a little extra. I'm sure the first plus size model wasn't afraid to wear any color the designer brought to her. And as for men being told pink is for girls, tell that to Ralph Lauren who earns millions of dollars every year for his colorful Polo's for men which are pink, yellow, mint green, and all other so called girl colors.

The point is if you never want someone to talk about you, and listen to this part very closely, simply DO WHAT EVERYBODY DOES. It's the only way to play it safe, and as for me and my purple people, safe is lame. Actually being safe is a routine and how boring are some of our day to day routines become.

I'll use myself for a quick example, I'm 32 years old and when I decided to cut my hair into a mo hawk you would not believe (or maybe you would if you are one of those stay in-line types) the kind of criticism I received. "You are to old for that mess on ya head" or " that's for kids". At first I began to feel like I made a mistake, then it hit me. Why? When my barber cut my hair there was certainly no age requirement, and how does a hair cut speak to my level of maturity? Does it mean I can not perform my job as well, or be the head of my house hold, or be a leader in my community for that matter. So you are saying if Mr.Barack Obama, the leader of the free world had braids he would not be as competent or brilliant? or if the great heart surgeon Dr. Ben Carson had a box he would not be able to save your life? I almost had become scary, the worst way to be. Stand out. Be purple...

WELCOME TO 'THE LETTER PURPLE"

Over the past few weeks, you have noticed facebook posts referring to the color purple. There has been 'thinking purple" "purple baby" "LIVE PURPLE" and etc. The question what is purple has become just as big of a mystery as wondering who built the Tone Loc page. (By the way whoever built that page please let me know, I'm f*cking dieing to find out!!!!!). We never thought that the topic would become as intriguing as it is.

With that said, my fellow gang of Purple People and I have decided to welcome you into the pentagon. This is our domain. This is where purple isn't a color, but our way of life. A life that we would love to share with you. And to show our appreciation for you coming by, we have created "The Letter Purple."

The Letter Purple, isn't just to explain what purple means to us. It's also a way for you to explore the thoughts of us and other inspiring Purple People. Whether the topic is religion, sex, or politics....its all here. And you're welcome to respond as you please. Regardless of how brutal, how vulgar, how harsh, or how honest your response may be.....we welcome it.

So what is purple? It's an experience. It's a journey. It's to much for us to explain in one damn blog! It would take to long to read. I would be writing all night long. And personally I'm tired so that's just too much typing. Instead I have an idea. How about every once in while we give you a small portion of what it is to be purple. Maybe every other blog or so. Between all the weird topics we will discuss, how about we create a blog giving you a purple rule? A commandment on what it means to Live Purple. Agreed?

Well by now you're either one of three things. Bored out of your mind, tired of reading all this ish, or waiting for the first rule. Regardless of which one you are, I'm glad you continued to read this much. You're really interested huh? Well this is what we'll do. As promised, we'll begin "The Letter Purple" and through it we will reveal to you what this entire purple frenzy is about. Just not right now. If you really want to know......just look for "The Letter Purple" it'll explain everything.
